“Art classes are a great way to build community. We know that being in community is good for us, we know that having purpose is good for us, but the health benefits of being in art class in specific it turns out are fascinating.” More >

ContactMyerberg at the J was a program geared toward active adults (primarily age 55+). It was funded by a grant from The Associated that created a partnership between the JCC and the Myerberg Center in Pikesville, MD. While the program was successful, the grant reached the end of its term on June 30, 2026. The JCC has decided to continue offering similar programs for adults under a new mantle.
J NEXT is a new programming initiative geared towards adults that is available at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC.
“When we realized that our Myerberg at the J partnership was ending, we decided to continue offering similar classes and gatherings to the hundreds of members and guests who have been active participants,” explains Melissa Seltzer, Senior Director of Impact and Innovation at the JCC. “J NEXT was inspired by the quest that many adults have as they reach middle age, when many ask, ‘What’s next for me?’ We know many participants are looking for ways to challenge their brains in new ways, expand their social circles, channel their creativity and more.”
J NEXT is open to adults of all ages, where our Myerberg at the J programming was focused primarily on ages 55+.
Get creative with a watercolor or ceramics class, take a conversational Hebrew class or a virtual trip with our Road Scholar series, learn to play mahjong or canasta, or participate in a lively discussion with our book club.
“We hope that participants will select our programs based on their interest and availability,” explains Lori O’Donnell, Director of Adult Programming. “While many of our programs will appeal to individuals who identify as seniors, we might also see a mother and adult daughter take a painting class or book club together. We recently hosted a group of young moms, with flexible schedules, for a Mah Jongg class.”
Many programs take place on weekdays, but some are available in the evening and on Sundays.
