June 28 @ 11:00 am 1:00 pm

Join artist and forest steward Inna Alesina for a hands-on morning on the JCC Nature Trail. This session focuses on the removal of Wavy Leaf Basket Grass and Japanese Stiltgrass — two invasive species threatening the forest understory — and learning about native and invasive berries found along the trail.

Volunteers will select small infestation areas and clear them completely, creating “islands” free from invasive grasses. If weather permits, we will plant native grasses in the cleared areas. Each volunteer or group will have their own patch to work — no experience needed.

Optional activities for kids include learning to identify native vs. invasive berries (wineberries, mulberries, and black raspberries), a berry collecting and tasting activity (if permitted), and the “I Spy Native Plants” forest scavenger game.

What to Wear:
Closed-toe shoes, long pants, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
All tools, gloves, and materials provided.

Rain date: July 5. Registration is required. Questions? Contact: Inna S. Alesina
