What is your role at the JCC, and what are you most excited about in this position?
Senior Director of Finance. I am excited to bring my 16 years of nonprofit experience to an organization with such a strong commitment to the local community. It is very rewarding to know my role will assist in ensuring the accuracy of the financial information prepared and presented to the JCC Board and key contributors.
What do you think makes the JCC a special place for staff, members, and the broader community?
The JCC’s commitment to the community is what makes it a special place. Its diversity and inclusiveness provide a very warm atmosphere felt when you walk through the front door.
How do you see your work at the JCC making a difference in people’s lives?
It is my responsibility to ensure the JCC financial records are accurate and complete so that it can meet its financial goals, but more importantly, have the means to continue fulfilling its commitment to the community.
If you could describe your job in a fun hashtag, what would it be and why?
#notyourordinarybeancounter – Accountants are sometimes labeled “bean counters.” It can be viewed as a negative stigma. However, I embrace it as it is a necessary job. The accountant role is a key position as it keeps a business organized. Whether operating in a for-profit or non-profit world, an organization’s financial health has an impact on its overall success.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests outside of work?
I enjoy playing pool. I play 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball. I have been to Las Vegas to play in the Women’s National Championship three times (including once as a team captain) and the “coed” Team National Championship once.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t guess?
As a former military spouse, I have lived in Misawa, Japan, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Communication is the key to success in life (both personal and professional).
