Dance Academy at the J

The J welcomes an exciting new partnership with The Dance Academy of Baltimore, introducing exciting new classes offerings in a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Pointe, Tap and Modern Dance! The Dance Academy is run by Ms. Sharon Lerner. With over 30 years’ experience, Ms. Sharon fuses dance and fun to instill students with a sense of confidence and self-discipline while providing expert instructing in areas of dance such as ballet, pointe, tap, and modern dance.

Philosophy of Dance Academy at the J

We believe that proper dance and music instruction can benefit all children, helping to develop mind-body coordination, instilling a sense of confidence and promoting self-discipline.

In addition to the Royal Academy of Dance’s method of ballet, which traces its origins to England, classes through the Dance Academy are designed according to the physical development of the young body and the appropriateness of specific techniques. Also incorporated into classes is the study of free movement and character dance.

Sharon Lerner
Sharon Lerner graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance College in London, England. Upon receipt of her diploma, Ms. Lerner was certified to train students in the RAD Syllabus, and has been teaching this Syllabus for over 35 years. Prior to teaching in Baltimore, she performed professionally with the Stuttgart Festival Ballet Company in Stuttgart, Germany.

Ms. Lerner brings choreographic and directing experience to her role as Director of The Dance Academy. Her students have performed at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World as well as aboard the Carnival Cruise Line. Her students were also chosen to participate in the National Association of Performing Arts Education’s weekend in New York City. This weekend of workshops and classes culminated in Ms. Lerner’s students performing at Carnegie Hall. Some Dance Academy alumnae have also performed on Broadway, and a majority of student continue on to dance in college and troupes.
