Helping JCC members have #StrongerHearts

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States?

Educating Baltimoreans about the prevention and treatment of heart disease is the main goal behind a new innovative collaborative initiative between LifeBridge Health (LBH) and The American Heart Association (AHA) called #StrongerHearts.

“This dynamic partnership between LifeBridge Health and the American Heart Association is already translating into new resources and programs designed to help JCC members enhance or improve their cardiovascular health,” says Barak Hermann, CEO of the JCC of Greater Baltimore.

“On February 17th, these organizations are unveiling a new Blood Pressure Kiosk, on the 21st we will jointly host a Ladies Happy(ness) Hour, and in the months ahead they will be bringing cooking demos and other educational programs, making the J not only a great place to get fit and stay in shape, but also a destination to monitor and track your heart health.”

The Blood Pressure Kiosk, also known as the higi© (hih-gee) health station, tracks key health vitals including blood pressure, pulse, weight and body mass (BMI).  You can track your readings by linking to your wearable fitness device or by setting up a higi account.

The AHA/LBH collaboration also includes events centered on heart disease, stroke and prevention, such as their recent World Stroke Day “takeover” of Baltimore’s Graffiti Alley, where community members, physicians and survivors spray-painted messages to raise awareness, as well as cooking demonstrations held throughout the community.

Check out lifebridgehealth.org/strongerhearts for up-to-date resources including everything from recipes and cooking videos to articles on a vast array of easy-to-understand, interactive information about the prevention and treatment of heart disease.
