Discovering the Balance

Mom-entrepreneur Nicole Feliciano shows Moms how to make time for business, family, success

MomBoss: Nicole FelicianoMid-September, mom-entrepreneur and author/blogger Nicole Feliciano takes off from New York City on a coast-to-coast book tour touching down at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts Thursday, September 29 at 7:00pm — for A Mom’s Night Out.

Feliciano will be promoting her new book MomBoss: Balancing Entrepreneurship, Kids, and Success. She is thrilled to be returning to Maryland, her childhood stomping grounds.

Feliciano, a Severna Park and Arnold native, is the Founder & CEO of Momtrends Media, a hip, blog-based, rapidly growing media firm that provides busy women a daily dose of style. Now ten years old, this blog has become a million dollar business.

In addition to her online presence, Nicole has also created a thriving events business that connects top-tier brands with the nation’s most influential bloggers.

Feliciano has hosted nearly 100 exclusive events — a swank product launch with Jessica Alba for the Honest Company, to glamorous fashion shows, to intimate movie previews with actresses like Julianne Moore.

In MomBoss: Balancing Entrepreneurship, Kids, and Success, Feliciano provides mothers everywhere with advice, business savvy and “connection.”

“We are a digital media company providing solutions to moms. As a blogger, I started out reviewing businesses. Now, businesses come to us to promote their brands.”

Transforming itself from a blog to media company, MomTrends has experienced incredible growth, connecting and providing engaging content to approximately 500,000 moms each month via You Tube, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and the MomTrends website.

Feliciano maintains a database of 1000 bloggers, 50 of whom write for her regularly. She also manages 11 employees, an office in Brooklyn, and has launched nearly 200 events for multiple name brands including V-Tech Baby Monitors, Hershey’s, POM, and American Girl Dolls.

The mother of two young daughters, Feliciano understands that, “Women want flexibility — they’re very tired of asking for permission from bosses. Women want to be the boss.”

“If work places were more flexible, there might be fewer MomBosses, but this book is about taking charge and starting your own business.”

Feliciano’s advice to mom entrepreneurs is to “Get your family to buy into your dreams. Be open and honest with them about where your work will impact their lives. Share that your goal is to help establish financial security while being there for them. It’s vital to reassure your children that they will always come first.”

Feliciano is a very devoted mom. “My daughters always come first,” she says, so MomBoss isn’t just a business start-up book.  It’s also guide to raising a happy family and succeeding on your own terms. Whether you are a CEO or running a business from your home, Feliciano charts the course for building a successful career without sacrificing being a great mom.

Feliciano will be joined by four other leading Mom-Entrepreneurs sharing the tricks of their trades, trials and successes of their unique Mom-owned businesses. Panelists, exclusively selected for this appearance at the Gordon, include:

Ellen Allen, a Maryland resident and a childhood friend of Feliciano’s, is a chic mother of two and an enthusiastic businesswoman who strives to design the perfect handbag for women of all ages and occupations. As a woman who loves her career and is devoted to her family, graceful living and balance define her life and guide her everyday choices. Prior to designing handbags, Ellen founded her own interior design firm following a retail career at Nordstrom. Ellen’s eye for fashion and design coupled with a working mother’s need for function and flexibility in accessories led her to establish her own signature brand of lifestyle products. Ellen Allen’s durable fabrics, vibrant colors, classic stripes combined with patterns inspired by Annapolis architecture make her bags irresistible to any buyer. Ellen Allen Annapolis reflects Ellen’s personality, her passions, and her vision of graceful living.

Of course, being a mom to son Charlie and daughters Eve and Alice is her #1 gig.

Kirsten Quigley co-founded 3greenmoms in late 2008 to help create solutions for families seeking more environmentally friendly products for everyday use. Inspired by the statistic that 20 million plastic baggies were thrown out each day in school lunches, Kirsten saw a need in the marketplace for a modern, functional and affordable alternative. As a result, 3greenmoms launched its first product, LunchSkins™ reusable sandwich and snack bags, to replace disposable plastic bags. What started as a small idea, quickly grew. The initial success of LunchSkins has evolved into a line of products for families to support the growing movement toward healthy and sustainable living.
