Meet Kate Trapani – J Camps Office Admin and Outreach Coordinator

From the magic of Disney to the vibrant energy of J Camps, Kate’s journey has been nothing short of exciting. With a background in theater, experience in guest services, and a passion for working with children, she brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a knack for organization to her new role as J Camps Office Admin and Outreach Coordinator. We sat down with Kate to learn more about her story, her inspirations, and what she’s most excited about in this new chapter.

Q: You’ve had quite the journey from Disney to the JCC! What drew you to this new role with J Camps?

A: I’ve always been passionate about connecting with others and working with a team to achieve a common goal. Organizing tasks to ensure everything runs smoothly and cheering on my coworkers are things that come naturally to me. And I’ve especially loved working with kids, watching them grow and learn. I believe this position with J Camps will give me an opportunity to get to know our camp youngsters, cultivate lasting relationships, and watch them flourish and evolve throughout the summers!

Q: How do you think your background in theater and your experience at Disney influence the way you approach your work?

A: Both my theatre degree and years with Disney have taught me to find joy in even the smallest moments. There are always opportunities to find and celebrate the positives in each and every day – you just have to look for them!

Q: You’ve worked in a variety of roles at the JCC since September—what excites you most about stepping into this new position?

A: I’m looking forward to building lasting relationships with my team and with the campers. I want to be someone that staff and campers alike feel like they can confide in and count on. (I also can’t wait to have an office of my own and decorate it with fun things that reflect me!)

Q: What’s one thing you’re looking forward to accomplishing as J Camps Office Admin and Outreach Coordinator?

A: I hope to make connections with organizations, campers, and families and have those

people get to know me. I know that I have big shoes to fill (shoutout to Isabela Herrera!), but I hope I can make a positive impact on the lives of those that I meet and assist. The sense of community here at the J is so special and I feel so lucky to be a member of the team – I want to welcome others as much as I have been welcomed.

Q: How does your experience with children’s theater and J Life help shape the way you connect with camp families?

A: As I mentioned, I’m someone who thrives on connecting with others. During my time with CTPC and J Life, I’ve met lots of amazing kids, parents, grandparents, and extended families who I now recognize here in the halls of the JCC. Being able to share experiences with them, learn about their lives and interests, and become a part of their journey is a huge honor.

Q: What do you think makes J Camps special?

A: J Camps is ACA Accredited – and that’s a huge deal! This team is so well-organized and so passionate about giving our campers the best camp experience possible. Every day I’m inspired to work as hard as I can to make sure everyone has a crazy fun summer!

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to parents who are considering J Camps for their kids?

A: Do it! There are so many options, your kid is bound to find a program that they can get excited about. Whether they love science, theater, sports, or art, they are sure to have a fun-filled summer.

Q: If you had to describe J Camps in three words, what would they be?

A: Fun, Fulfilling, and Fast-paced!

Q: If you could bring one element of Disney magic to J Camps, what would it be?

A: Something as simple as a friendly smile can go a long way. Taking the time to ask

someone about their day and really listening to what they have to say can turn their entire day around. Plus, I’m always ready for a Disney sing-a-long!

Q: What’s your go-to way to unwind after a busy day?

A: My dog, Tucker, can cheer me up no matter what! I like to relax on the couch or get cozy in bed with him, share some popcorn, and watch a good horror movie. I also love to read, listen to music, and sing.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

A: I’m related to a former president – James Madison.
