The occupation of a lifeguard encompasses the duties of rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning, the monitoring of activities at a swimming pool to prevent accidents, the teaching of water safety through the communication of rules and policies, and providing assistance to patrons. This position will also help to maintain order and cleanliness in the pool and pool areas, give instructions to swimmers, conduct or officiate at swimming meets, and administer first aid. Additional ancillary lifeguard duties may include checking in and out such items as towels, rings, watches and apparel to the lost and found. and This position will be required to test and record water quality for temperature and/or pH levels, using all of the tools of the testing process including adding chemicals to the test water sample.

JPlay is a program of the JCC with a division offering babysitting services to members and guests, offering piece-of-mind while they work out or attend programming at the J, knowing their children will be safe, nurtured and entertained in our fully-equipped babysitting room. These services are offered for up to 2 hours per visit.

The Babysitters are responsible for the care, supervision and feeding of children ages three months to five years of age. Engaging play supplies (including but not limited to books, “real life” toy sets, and arts & crafts) are provided by the JCC.

J Camps, located at the JCC of Greater Baltimore, is looking for energetic, dedicated staff members who are interested in working in a fun, creative camp environment this summer. Our programming has a variety of focuses including aquatics, arts & culture, athletics, nature, science and more with a foundation of Judaism. In addition, our training includes child development workshops, skill sharing, and certification in Basic Water Safety and CPR. We hire on a rolling basis.  Our main summer season is June 26 – August 18, 2023, and we offer excellent camper discounts for summer staff.  While most of our positions are full-time, we do have a few that run for only select weeks. J CAMPS TEACHING ARTISTS

Habimah Arts Camp is a multi-disciplinary summer camp giving children, grades from 1st-6th, a chance to work with Baltimore’s master performing and visual arts teaching artists and professionals. It is the programs’ goal to enhance campers skills, explore new horizons, and offer exposure and skill-building in various realms within visual and performing arts.  Camp classes are intended to develop creativity, confidence and teamwork. Each camp day consists of several classes within these fields, and concluding each two-week camp session, campers put on a final showcase of what they've learned. Outside of time in class with the artist, this program also incorporates swimming, outdoor time, and field trips.

Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Arts Education, the ideal teaching artist is prepared to be a role model within their field, has experience and loves teaching children of all ages, and has extensive experience in their art form.  The ideal candidate would include someone who enjoys working with young people and/or theatre for young audiences.  These positions also require teaching classes within their art form to campers.  Looking for teaching artists in a variety of theatrical, visual, performance, and any similar fields.  Some include, but are not limited to visual arts, dance, acting, voice, stage combat, mime, stage makeup, puppetry, musical theatre, and costume and set design. 

PERFORMING & VISUAL ARTS SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR; JUNIOR & SENIOR

This summer, the Arts and Culture department within JCamps will be offering two theatre arts camps. The first camp of the summer is Habimah Arts Camp, a multi-disciplinary summer camp giving children, grades from 1st-6th, exposure and skill-building in both visual and performing arts. Each camp day consists of several classes within these fields from Baltimore’s finest artists and instructors. The program also incorporates swimming, outdoor time, and field trips. On the final Friday of each 2-week session, campers show off their new skills and what they have learned in their very own showcase, featured on the Gordon stage.

The last three weeks of the summer offers the additional performance-based summer camp, Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC), grades 3rd-8th. Each camp day will include musical theatre preparatory classes, auditions, rehearsal, and the final product of a full stage musical on the Gordon stage. Selected counselors will be working with the director to help run rehearsals, review material with campers, work the backstage for the production, and any other duties assigned to them in relation to the show. This year’s production is Little Mermaid Jr.
