Youth Fitness Instructor

Summary

As a Youth Fitness Instructor, you’ll be in charge of leading classes for children between 6 and 11 years of age and helping them develop valuable skills through age-appropriate activities and games. Along with other JCC instructors, you’ll be responsible for providing a fun, engaging, enriching and safe environment for our Get Movin’ Youth Fitness Program. Working with our Youth Fitness Coordinator, you’ll get to add your own creative flair to make sure weekly activities are energizing, constructive and fun.

Get Movin’ Youth Fitness classes are Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm – 7:30pm and Saturday morning from 8:30am – 9:30am. Program starts Monday, October 8, 2018 and ends on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. There may be opportunities throughout the year to be a part of other JCC youth fitness programs, as well as a potential opportunity after the program ends to be a part of our summer youth programs.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • College degree or Continuing Education preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in fitness area of interest preferred 
  • Minimum of six months to one year of teaching children ages 6 – 11 in similar programs or activities
  • Program specific certification or education preferred
  • First Aid certification required
  • Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED certification required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides curriculum and instruction to participants.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the children are supervised at all times.
  • Provides, promotes and maintains safe classes and programs for participants and follows guidelines set by the Youth Fitness Coordinator and Senior Director of Fitness.
  • Responsible for set-up and take-down of all equipment.
  • Maintains high standards of communication with staff, participants, and parents.
Work Environment

The work environment is usually fast paced. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff as well as with members, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others.

Physical Demands
  • Requires long periods of sitting, standing and moving
  • Grasping and gripping movements
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person
  • Employee is expected to use discretionary judgement and ask for assistance from another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift without assistance.
  • Use of personal safety equipment is required
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling and bending
