Special Needs Assistant Inclusion Director

Summary

The JCC Assistant Inclusion Director, under the leadership of the JCC Inclusion Director, and working closely the Special Needs Program Director and J Camps team, will assist in the management and oversight of the JCC 2018 summer inclusion program. This will include assisting with staff trainings, supervision, behavior consultation, crisis management, and communication with staff and participating families. The position will run full-time from June 18, 2018 to August 17, 2018, with additional pre-camp orientation and planning time to be determined.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of ADA compliance regulations, individual education plans and behavior intervention plans.
  • Additional training and certifications in behavior intervention and crisis management such as CPI or PCM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist during mandatory training sessions for staff in order to meet the needs of their job description.
  • Collaborate with Inclusion Director in the supervision and management of summer inclusion staff.
  • Provide behavior consultation and coaching to summer inclusion staff and general camp staff, including creating and implementing behavior plans.
  • Get to know and work directly with campers in the inclusion program to ensure that support needs are being met and the camper is having the best possible summer experience.
  • Provide immediate assistance and crisis management to summer inclusion staff and general camp staff as necessary.
  • Communicate with parents and staff regularly and in a timely manner as deemed appropriate by Inclusion Director.
  • Assist Inclusion Director and the camp leadership team in staff scheduling and other relevant administrative duties.
Work Environment

The work environment is usually fast paced. This job requires high energy in multiple locations and requires interaction with staff as well as participants with special needs and their families.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to have enough mobility essential to assisting others with less mobility. The employee must be physically able to react safely and appropriately if participant’s behaviors warrant physical action such as running or restraining. The employee may be asked to assist with transferring participants from wheelchairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
