History & Mission

The mission of the Arts & Culture department of the Baltimore Jewish Community Center (JCC), which includes the The Gordon Center for Performing arts, is to create a welcoming environment that engages, educates, entertains and expands the horizons of the Baltimore community through exploration and celebration of all types of art and Jewish culture.

The Goal

The mission supports partnerships within both the Jewish community and the Arts community aimed at fostering greater cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Furthermore, the goal is to provide meaningful opportunities for life-long learning, exploration of profound ideas, stimulating conversation and community connections.

History

With generous funding from the Peggy and Yale Gordon trust, the Gordon Center opened in 1995 as mainly a venue for classical music. Today, the arts center offers a multi-disciplinary performance season of live music, dance, family programs and film screenings, presenting a wide variety of local, regional, national, and international artists.
