Svetlana, Night at the Movies

Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 7:30 pm

Born and raised in Moscow, internationally-renown jazz chanteuse Svetlana grew up listening to American jazz and pop records on her hissing “made-in-the-USSR” Melodia turntable. In the late 1990’s she moved to New York’s East Village, drawn by the freedom of personal and artistic expression N.Y.C. offered.

Twenty years later, Svetlana has become a critically acclaimed jazz artist and mainstay on the New York music scene (a finalist of the Paul Carr's 2019 Discovery Act Competition, finalist of the American Music Abroad (AMA), and an alternate at the 2019 American traditions vocal competition).

Svetlana's live shows transport audiences through a carnival of jazz sounds, moving from sophisticated, sultry retrospection to rowdy, joyous dance beats.

Svetlana and her band have headlined sold out shows in premier venues and festivals across the U.S. and internationally (Tel Aviv Blues Festival, Italian Villas and Jazz Festival, Blue Note Jazz Festival and performing arts theaters worldwide).

At the Gordon, Svetlana will be performing works from her album Night at the Movies, produced by Grammy Award-winning Matt Pierson, and arranged by Grammy Award-winning Gil Goldstein.
