Early Childhood Education Center Director

Summary

The Director of the Meyerhoff Early Childhood Education Center at the Park Heights JCC oversees the operations of the program including students aged 3 months through Pre-Kindergarten.  The ECEC Director is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and ongoing revision of Park Heights ECEC programming including the marketing and staffing of the program, the efficiency and quality of instruction and the supervision of compliance with the program’s academic and administrative procedures as well as state regulations and licensure.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor and/or Master Degree in Education or related field, classroom experience (preferably early childhood), and a minimum of two years as an administrator in the education field
  • Professional knowledge and understanding of early childhood education curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Excellent organizational skills, management skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to establish and lead effective teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide effective coordination and leadership of the Park Heights ECEC program by implementing the vision and mission of the JCC through developmentally appropriate curriculum containing secular and Judaic components.
  • Govern and manage programs and staff by creating appropriate communication between Teacher/Director and Teacher/Parent, holding regular staff meetings, providing orientation sessions for teachers and Parents, provide weekly written communication with Parents  regarding  school activities and upcoming events, etc.
  • Ensure that the Center and staff conform to federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies including, but not limited to the MD State Health Department and the Department of Human Resources for the State of Maryland.  Develop plans for Emergency procedures.
  • In accordance with established Human Resources policies, oversee hiring of teachers and other staff.  Keep appropriate written records and manage payroll.
  • Work with parents to create and manage a robust ECEC parents association.
  • Be familiar with community resources for children with special needs and their families.
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis as partners in educational activities of their children.
  • Interact professionally with all staff of the JCC as well as lay leadership.
  • Coordinate branding and marketing materials with the Senior Director of Early Childhood.
  • Maintain accurate records and supervise accurate record keeping in the ECEC department.
  • Manage the ECEC finances and budgets including the purchase of school materials in a responsible manner.
  • Help to identify, analyze, and execute growth opportunities for the ECEC department and its programs (in partnership with the Senior Director, Early Childhood).
  • Guide ongoing program improvement process through short and long term planning activities including marketing programs for Teacher Education.
  • Oversee all of the above for age-appropriate summer camp.
  • Ability to follow JCC guidelines for professional behavior, emergency procedures, employee handbook, and other applicable policies.
  • Serves as professional role model, acts in a professional manner that reflects good character and ethics.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.
  • Perform other JCC-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional attire and demeanor at all times.
  • Participates in departmental and agency training, staff meetings, conferences, committees and special events.  Represents the JCC on appropriate staff committees and at interagency and professional conferences.

The work environment is usually fast paced. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff as well as with parents, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to the employee is regularly required to use a computer, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
