DBJCC: Closure

Dear DBJCC Family,

Over the past few months, the Downtown Baltimore JCC (DBJCC) team has greatly missed seeing you and your children and hope you have been able to find some silver linings throughout this difficult time.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of the DBJCC. This decision, while not made lightly, is due to mounting financial challenges and pressures from the ongoing pandemic. Nevertheless, we are determined to continue providing meaningful and innovative experiences for families living downtown, as it is our desire to continue our relationship with all of our DBJCC families.

From a community service project to an outdoor Shabbat experience, our goal remains the same—to offer dynamic family experiences that deepen your family’s connection to Jewish life through the celebration of Jewish holidays and traditions. We will work with existing and new community partners including local libraries, the Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM), and other indoor/outdoor public spaces to continue to offer virtual and in person family programs through our J Around Town program.  This is possible through the generous support of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, Joseph and Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds, and the Ben & Esther Rosenbloom Foundation.

Prior to COVID-19, the DBJCC staff, in conjunction with the DBJCC Advisory Council, had discussed ways to expand offerings to include families who have “aged out” of our programs. As we re-imagine future engagement programs, we welcome your input on how to best cultivate a vibrant and connected Jewish community downtown. We really want to hear from you! Thank you for being a part of our DBJCC family.  We also want to thank Max Realty for helping to bring this vision to life seven years ago.  While it is heart-breaking to close this amazing space that served the Downtown community for so many years, we promise to continue providing dynamic, high-quality, and fun Jewish experiences for families living downtown.

Stay safe and well,

Randi Buergenthal, Chair of the Board
