Not every member of the J knows that the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC is home to a vibrant Pickleball community. Few know, as well, that in Dr. Andrew Purcell, we actually have a Senior Olympic Pickleball Champion in our midst.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and is extremely popular among seniors. Invented in the 1960’s in Washington State, Pickleball is a racquet sport, like badmitton, tennis, and ping pong.

Baltimore Athletes Make Memories and Take Pride in JCC Maccabi Games® Experience 

The JCC Maccabi Games®, held over the last two weeks in St. Louis, MO, and Stamford, CT, have been offering life - and personality-shaping experiences to Jewish teenagers since 1982. 

Teens from around the world participate in this five-day Olympic-style sporting event held each summer. Beyond the athletic competition, the Games promote community involvement, teamwork, and pride in being Jewish.

Each year Baltimore sends nearly 100 athletes to up to two host cities to compete in Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Bowling, Baseball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Swimming, Softball, Dance and Track & Field.

Veteran Coach Shares Passion for Maccabi Baseball  

Meet Mickey Cohen, Head Coach of the 13-14 year-old Maccabi Baseball Team and Sonny Plant Volunteer of the Year for 2015 for the Baltimore JCC Maccabi Team. Mickey has been coaching JCC Maccabi baseball for the past 15 years.

When asked why he loves being a JCC Maccabi coach, Mickey enthusiastically replies: “It’s the memories we make together, seeing players have fun, being happy, succeeding, and building friendships.”
