A Passion for Dance, Kindness, and Respect

Many in the Jewish Community already know JCC staff member Sara Rubinstein. Sara was recently awarded the Darrell D. Friedman Institute’s Neely Tal Snyder Community Impact Award, for her work improving the lives of people with disabilities both here at the J and within the Jewish community.

What many don’t know about Sara is her career trajectory, and what led her to do this incredibly important work as a champion for people with diverse needs and advocate for inclusion.

A participant in dance programs since kindergarten, Sara’s “first love” was, and remains, dance, with musical theatre a strong second.

On the Spectrum

Alex Holt was born on Long Island but grew up near Albany and Buffalo, New York. He was first identified as being on the autism spectrum around 1994 or 1995. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College in journalism in 2013 before moving to Baltimore and receiving his master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2014. He recently completed an internship at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC in 2017, where he still writes.

Inclusion Programs at the J

February is national Jewish Disability Awareness & Inclusion Month. T.J. Casser is the father of Ethan Casser, a seven year old boy who has Autism and pronounced communication delays. Ethan has attended J camps and has been actively involved in JCC inclusion programs.
