J Fitness Center Rules

We strive to make your fitness experience safe and enjoyable. In order to ensure an excellent and safe experience, we ask that you adhere to the rules below: 

MEMBERS AND GUESTS MUST BE 16 OR OLDER TO WORK OUT IN THE J FITNESS CENTERS.

  • Teens aged 12-15 must complete Junior Weight Training for access to the Fitness Center. Access is limited to cardio and selectorized equipment.
  • Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the fitness center, unless directly working with a J Fitness personal trainer.

CARDIOVASCULAR EQUIPMENT IS LIMITED TO 30 MIN WHEN OTHERS ARE WAITING. Members must sign up and adhere to a 30 minute limit on cardiovascular machines. If you have not signed up or have stepped away from the equipment, another member has the right to take your spot.  

AVOID EXCESSIVE CELL PHONE USE AND AUDIBLE CONVERSATIONS WITHIN THE FITNESS CENTERS. Headphones must be used for personal music. 

OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE, YELLING, EXCESSIVE GRUNTING, Etc. ARE PROHIBITED. 

EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. Allow others to rotate on machines and benches between sets and do not monopolize equipment.  

MEMBERS MUST EXIT THE FITNESS CENTER PROMPTLY AT CLOSING TIME.  The Fitness Centers and Gymnasiums close 15 minutes before the building for your convenience.  

APPROPRIATE DRESS AND HYGIENE IS MANDATORY IN THE FITNESS CENTERS. Observe proper personal hygiene by showering regularly, wearing clean clothes, using deodorant, and avoiding colognes and perfumes. Dry, closed-top and back ATHLETIC SHOES are required. NO dress shoes, boots, water shoes, sandals, or shoes that mimic bare feet are permitted. Be modest with tops and bottoms –shirts must cover the midriff. 

USE EQUIPMENT SAFELY AND TREAT IT PROPERLY 

  • Ask for assistance from the J Fitness staff on duty if you are unfamiliar with any equipment. Misusing the equipment can result in injury and/or damage to the equipment.
  • Use a spotter when appropriate and safety devices such as: clamps and collars for free weight and treadmill clips.
  • Do NOT slam or drop weights.
  • Please clean off equipment after use utilizing wipes and cleaning supplies provided.
  • Outside or personal equipment is not permitted in the Fitness Centers.
  • Please re-rack weights and return all equipment to its original location for the next person to use.

ONLY PLASTIC or ALUMINUM CLOSED CONTAINERS FOR WATER OR SPORTS DRINKS ALLOWED IN FITNESS CENTER.  No additional food or drink. No glass bottles.    

JACKETS AND BAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE FITNESS CENTER FLOORS.  Lockers are provided for personal items, and locks are sold at the front desk.  

OUTSIDE PERSONAL TRAINERS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO TRAIN ON OUR PREMISES.  Our liability insurance requires us to permit only the certified personal trainers who are employees of the JCC of Greater Baltimore to provide services to members and guests.   

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.  Alert J Fitness staff if you witness medical incidents, improper use of equipment, broken equipment or members/guests not abiding by rules. 

All patrons must comply with the fitness center rules. J staff reserve the right to ask an individual to leave the facility for inappropriate conduct or violating the rules.
