GRAMMY Award-Winner, Mister G, coming to the Gordon!

Funky, original Jewish-themes songs with Latin GRAMMY Award winner Mister G!

Mister G, a Latin GRAMMY Award winner and a Parents’ Choice Gold Award Winning PJ Library artist, will be bringing his dynamic live show to the Gordon, Sunday, March 5 at 3:00pm.

Mister G has released seven albums of original, multicultural music, spanning genres from funk to folk, reggae to rock, and bluegrass to bossa nova. He regularly headlines major venues and festivals around the country including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, The Getty Museum in LA, Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia, the National Zoo in Washington, DC, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Austin City Limits. He has also performed in Europe and tours extensively in Latin America.

“My music carries a strong rhythmic element with funk rhythms and a lot of energy,” Mister G. told the editors of J Blog. With catchy songs that are equally appealing for children as well as their parents, Mister G has been named one of the “best live acts for kids and families.”

For the concert at the Gordon, Mister G will be featuring songs from his Parents’ Choice Gold Award winning PJ Library album, The Mitzvah Bus, and his Latin GRAMMY winning album, Los Animales. “There’s a lot of interactivity built into the show,” says Mister G. “Each song has some sort of physical engagement that kids will learn on the spot courtesy of Missus G.” A typical Mister G concert concludes with hundreds of kids singing and dancing onstage together.

Mister G’s real name is Ben Gundersheimer. The son of a German immigrant father who escaped the Holocaust in 1939, Ben was raised in Philadelphia where his father taught History at the University of Pennsylvania before becoming Director of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. His mother, Karen, had was an author/illustrator of children’s books.

Ben attended undergraduate school at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he studied English. He also studied abroad in Madrid and attended Berklee School of Music in Boston on a songwriting scholarship.

After an award-winning career as a singer/songwriter for grown-ups, Ben earned a Masters in Education at Smith College. As a student and later as a lead teacher he would write songs for his young students, fusing his passion for kids and music. In addition to touring, Ben conducts artist residencies in schools around the US and abroad.

Having headlined major Jewish venues across the US and abroad, Mister G is excited to play the Gordon. “Performing in the Jewish World is a great way to engage with my own Judaism. For this concert, I’ll be singing original songs in English, Spanish, Hebrew and Yiddish.” Looking ahead to his concert at the Gordon, Mister G simply states, “Every show is a unique opportunity to make something impactful happen.
